The story of
Mashrib Mazumder
I work at the intersection of research, photography, and documentary filmmaking. My practice is shaped by a deep interest in how people, places, and histories are remembered, represented, and sometimes forgotten.
With a background in Media Studies and Journalism, I have worked on research projects involving misinformation, AI-generated content, digital propaganda, and hate speech, including studies focused on the Rohingya community. This research experience has influenced the way I think about storytelling, especially the responsibility of representing communities whose voices are often distorted, ignored, or politically misused.
Project Bhasani
A two part documentary project on Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani widely known as Red Moulana, a long-term personal and historical project . The first part explores his early formation as an orphan, learner, wanderer, and spiritual-political figure shaped by rivers, villages, borders, faith, and ordinary people.
The second part will focus on Bhasani’s public life, peasant politics, anti-imperial position, Islamic socialism, and the way he was remembered and named by the people. Through this work, I want to explore documentary as a visual research medium where archive, interview, fieldwork, reenactment, and cinematic storytelling can come together.
Long Term Goal
My long-term goal is to make documentary work that brings forgotten histories and underrepresented voices closer to younger audiences. I want history to feel alive , not only as education, but as memory, emotion, and visual experience.
